Frequently asked questions

Why has the Campaign to End Loneliness launched the Be More Us movement?
Loneliness and isolation are on the rise. We all need friendship and support, no matter what age we are.

Over half of UK adults feel it’s been a long time since they made a new friend
Over half of British adults feel it’s been a long time since they made a new friend or connection. Almost half (49%) of UK adults say that their busy lives stop them from connecting with other people. Work and chores can get in the way.
But we can all do something to tackle loneliness. Small moments of connection, like saying hello to someone in your local shop or smiling at someone on the bus, are an important way to tackle loneliness. Our research found that almost 9 in 10 (88%) people agree with us.

88% of people believe that small moments of connection can help tackle loneliness
We have launched the Be More Us movement to celebrate small moments of connection. In every conversation, there is an opportunity to be ‘Us’ and find something that we share. Small moments count. So, don’t be a stranger. Let’s Be More Us.

Yes. We can only tackle loneliness if we all play our part. We all need friendship and support, no matter what age we are.
Why are there children in the Be More Us film?
The four children in our film show us how making friends and connections is child’s play. Breaking down barriers can be as simple as saying “Hello”. All of us can learn to Be More Us from these children.
What is the research that has been launched with Be More Us?
We commissioned YouGov to conduct a poll of 2035 adults to learn about loneliness and connections in the UK. Fieldwork was undertaken between 25th – 26th April 2018 and he survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all UK adults (aged 18+). All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc.
