Let’s switch on to those around us – #NewYearNewUs

Technology has changed our lives (mostly for the better). But spending too much time staring at our screens could cause you to miss the amazing things right in front of you.
As part of our #NewYearNewUs campaign, we’re asking people to spend less time on their phones, and more time connecting with people IRL.
Social Media can be a great way to meet new friends with similar interests.
Or, look at pictures of cats.
And while both of these things are great, so much of our technology-time is spent mindlessly scrolling. And research shows this is having a negative impact.
So we’re not saying to go for a total tech detox, but have a think about how much you use you phone. Could that time be better spent?
Staying in touch
Mobile phones are a great way to stay in touch with long-distance friends and family, especially during the holidays when you might not otherwise be able to see each other. But all too often we get so wrapped up in staying in touch and up-to-date online, we might miss an opportunity to connect with someone in real life.
Technology is great, but it will never replace the power of human connection
We want to help create a kinder, friendlier country. We want people to feel part of their communities and better connected with the people around them.
We think that spending less time on our phones is a great way to do that.
